Max Blumenfeld
Passed away peacefully at his home in San Rafael on May 22, 2010. A native of Marin County, he was 73. The son of Nate & Ruth (nee Lehman) Blumenfeld, he was born in San Rafael, CA in 1936, and spent his early years working for his family in the theater business––the Blumenfeld's owned a circuit of theaters including the historic Sequoia in Mill Valley––until he forged his own path developing bowling centers in the Bay Area and Sacramento. He was the proprietor of the Albany Bowl among others.
Max loved his bi-monthly poker game and was an avid golfer who spent the happiest times of his life in Rancho Mirage, California on the golf course. He was known for his wry sense of humor and genuine smile and will be remembered by his many friends as one of the nicest and kindest men they ever met. He had a quiet, gentle presence and was a dedicated son, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Valerie (nee Harris); his daughter Pamela Ortiz and son-in-law, Diego Ortiz, of Walnut Creek and their children Juliana and Nicolas; his son Jack Blumenfeld and daughter-in-law, Jessica, of San Francisco and their children Isabella and Alexie; his step son, Jeff Anixter and daughter-in law, Gina Anixter of Granite Bay, and their children Alyssa and Natalie and his step-daughter Shelley Anixter of San Francisco.
Donations in Max Blumenfeld’s honor can be made to Jewish Family Services of Marin or San Francisco or ORT America of New York.
